Crowns for Primary Teeth

Sometimes, when a baby tooth has a cavity that is too large for a filling, the best way to protect it is with a crown. Crowns cover the entire tooth, restoring its shape and strength so your child can chew, speak, and smile with confidence until the tooth naturally falls out.

For back (posterior) teeth, we typically recommend stainless steel crowns because they are durable and reliable for chewing. For front (anterior) teeth, we use tooth-colored options such as porcelain or composite crowns, which blend in naturally with your child’s smile.

Crowns are a safe, effective way to preserve baby teeth until it’s time for them to be replaced by permanent teeth — helping to maintain healthy spacing, function, and comfort.

Impressions are then taken of the prepared teeth and a temporary bridge is placed to protect the teeth. The impressions are used to fabricate a model of your mouth on which the final bridge is made. The final bridge is then cemented and anchored to the neighboring teeth, so you do not have to worry about removing or repositioning the bridge, once it is cemented in your mouth. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental exams, bridges and crowns can solve the problems created by missing and damaged teeth and last for many years.
